Along with all the primary research I did, I followed up with some secondary research as well to get a better understanding of the subculture and topics realted to it.

"Title IX." Issues & Controversies On File: n. pag. Issues & Controversies. Facts On File News Services, 18 July 1997. Web. 18 Mar. 2012. http://www.2facts.com/article/i0201610.

  • This article explained the importance of Title IX, a piece of legislation that forbids institutes that recieve federal funds from discriminating on the bias of gender, and how it has impacted athletics. It was a historical step in improving the unfairness that once came with womens sports.

"Survey of Age Regulations for U.S. Sports (sidebar)." Issues & Controversies On File: n. pag. Issues & Controversies. Facts On File News Services, 28 May 2004. Web. 18 Mar. 2012. http://www.2facts.com/article/ib901200.

  • This article provided information about age regulations for U.S. sports. The difference in the eligable age to play a sport was compared between different sports and gender. It was interesting to see what ages are considered "prime" for each sport and gender. This article was published 8 years ago so the regulations may have changed.

"Basic Safety Guidelines for High School Athletics (sidebar)." Issues & Controversies On File: n. pag. Issues & Controversies. Facts On File News Services, 21 Dec. 2007. Web. 18 Mar. 2012. http://www.2facts.com/article/ib120682 .

  • With every sport comes the risk of injury. This article advised athletes and coaches on the proper ways to help prevent injuries while participating in sports. Some of these things may seem like common sense, but they are great rules for athletes to follow if they wish to keep participating in their desired athletics. This article was published in 2007 but is still as relavent and important now as it was back then.

"Odds of High School Athletes Turning Pro (sidebar)." Issues & Controversies On File: n. pag. Issues & Controversies. Facts On File News Services, 28 May 2004. Web. 18 Mar. 2012. http://www.2facts.com/article/ib901205.

  • This article put into perspecive the reality of high school athletes that go on to play sports at a professional level. It explained that the odds are highly unlikely, especially for women. Although this article was published around 8 years ago, it still offers fairly accurate information. Of course things have changed a little and numbers are different, the odds of an athlete going professional aren't that high.

"Basketball History: Origin of the Sport." Basketball History: Origin of the Sport. Web. 04 Mar. 2012. http://www.thebasketballworld.com/history.htm.

  • This website explains the history of basketball and how it originated. It recognizes James Naismith as the inventor of the sport and his original 13 rules of basketball.
